There are many people who we cross paths with and affect us deeply. I’d like to introduce my amazing grandfather who just turned 95 and share with you how he has helped me grow into the business woman I am today! He has taught me about optimism, to be persistent, generous and to live life with love and compassion.

I have talked to many consultants who have been at a party, met a friendly face at the store or have bumped into a neighborhood friend and have been beaming with excitement that they have found another person interested in the Sydney Andrews opportunity. Why not, it’s a great product that basically sells itself, it’s a fun profession surrounded by people who love to go to a party and the rewards are generous to both the hostess and consultant. Why then is it not unusual for people to say they are ready to sign up and suddenly become a person who is MIA?

After spending 4 days in Los Angeles at the Direct Selling Women’s Alliance (DSWA) conference it was evident that there are new trends in the home party plan industry. In fact, direct selling in general has changed. People are looking for a conversation rather than a presentation.
I believe a lot of this has to do with technology and the new era of social media. People are spending a great deal of time on their computers and smart phones and are not conversing as much in person. Therefore it seems that when people communicate with technology they feel that they have to get straight to the point and offer their product as soon as possible before losing their audience. WRONG! So many times I see on Facebook , Twitter or 3rd party sites the deal of the month or why their product is the greatest product on earth. WRONG!

I have been working out with the same teacher, “Aray” for nearly 7 years now. The exercise classes keep on changing but this devoted and amazing teacher remains the same! Aray is energetic, very funny and absolutely an inspiration to me. Every class is different and I always appreciate her creatively and levity! I have taken everything from Barbell to Salsa dancing with her and “it’s all good!”
I’d like to outline many of Aray’s phrases and actions that demonstrate how these can be applied to you and your home party business.

I love it when consultants come up with creative ideas as to how to get their product out there and get bookings for their parties. Being able to step outside the box can help you stand out above the rest. The following are examples of what some of the Sydney Andrews consultants have done to go the extra mile!
1. Tracy P. who happens to be a wonderful photographer as well as being a Sydney Andrews consultant has utilized her skills by photographing herself with each necklace and earring set. Every day I see a new posting on Facebook of her modeling the “jewelry of the day” She posts them at different times and different days of the week to capture various audiences. She also posts recommendations and advice of what to wear with the jewelry and to what sort of occasion. I love this because it’s visual and interactive!

Home parties are plain and simple the core to growing your direct sales business. Sometimes you may need creative ways to help you get these home party bookings. The following are 9 ideas that may spark that creative pulse for you!
1. Think about a place where you can hold a party outside the “traditional” home. What about meeting up at a park, your friend’s office, coffee shop or even a daycare center. The most unusual place I displayed my jewelry was actually at a horse stable- it was a bit messy but fun and successful! (more…)

Whether your home based business is in direct sales or any other industry – I find it helpful to be organized and accountable in my work. The following are 5 basic tips that I do to keep on track. Many of us both work at home and run a household and it is important to be able to balance the two and feel successful in both arenas.
1. Don’t procrastinate- I do live by the saying “Do what you can today and don’t put it off until tomorrow”. It feels good to accomplish all that you can today because you never know what will come up tomorrow- especially with kids! Setting reasonable goals and finishing your tasks will give you a great sense of acheivement.

Do you ever feel uncomfortable imposing on your friends , family and new contacts to host a party? Do you feel that people are looking at you differently because you think they are thinking you have your own agenda? Do you feel like you are asking everyone for favors?
Sorry to say, but, the truth is “it’s not about you.”
Often consultants run their home party business incorrectly by asking for bookings. Many consultants assume their hostesses are doing them a favor by holding a party. Well the truth is there are a ton of benefits for the hostess to hold a party and have a fun filled evening amongst their own friends. With most companies, including Sydney Andrews, the hostesses earn a large percentage of FREE product based on party sales. Also, additional items often can be purchased by the hostess for half off. Many direct sales companies offer benefits to the guests as well, currently Sydney Andrews offers 10% off all orders over $100.00. Therefore this is a win, win, win senario- the hostess is eligible for free and discounted jewelry, the guests are eligible for discounted items and the consultant earns his/her commission!
Below are some examples of how you can approach booking a party- which one sounds best to you?

A successful consultant of mine, Amy T. was brainstorming with me about helping out a local organization and getting some exposure for her own business. On her own she came up with this great idea of proposing to an auction volunteer about having a party and for her to donate her hostess rewards.
Below is a copy of the letter she wrote…..
